A native of Southern Indiana, State Representative Steven R. Stemler is president and owner of The Stemler Corporation, which provides commercial and residential plumbing and irrigation services in Southern Indiana and Northern Kentucky.

Steve has been married to his wife, Vikki, for 23 years, and has two children: a daughter, Mahalie; and a son, Lincoln.

For the past two decades, Rep. Stemler has been involved in Southern Indiana government and economic development. Some of his economic development activities have included serving as a director of the Southern Indiana Economic Development Council and the Jeffersonville Strategic Planning Committee, and as chairman of the Southern Indiana Chamber of Commerce’s Business Development Division.

State Rep. Stemler served on the Indiana Port Commission from 1997 to 2006. As a commissioner, Steve was instrumental in the development and growth of Indiana’s three public ports located in Burns Harbor, Mount Vernon and the Clark Maritime Center in Jeffersonville. The Clark Maritime Center has continued to outpace competing river ports in the past decade and has experienced tremendous growth in high–paying jobs for Clark County residents.

He is also currently serving on the board of directors of Community Bankshares Holding Corporation and on the board of Your Community Bank of Southern Indiana, a locally–owned and –operated bank in Southern Indiana and Jefferson County, Kentucky. In addition, Steve served for five years on the River Ridge Commerce Center, a five–member board responsible for transitioning the former Charlestown Ammunition Plant to local industrial and commercial development. After working for over five years with the U.S. Army, the community was successful in 2005 in returning ownership of over 1500 acres to Clark County. Today, over 65 of those acres are under private development on the north parcel of the property.

From 1992 to 1995, Rep. Stemler was a member of the Jeffersonville City Council, serving as council president in 1994. In addition, he was vice president of the Clark County Solid Waste Management District in 1994, as well as a past director of the Regional Federal Bank.

He attended Jeffersonville High School and Indiana University Southeast and is a 1995 graduate of the Leadership Southern Indiana Foundation. Steve is also a licensed plumbing contractor in the states of Indiana and Kentucky.
